North Middle School Programs
Colorado Springs School District 11 IB Middle School
Accredited by the International Baccalaureate Organization in 1998
North Middle School, District 11’s International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme school, offers a variety of enrichments and self-contained programs to serve every student who walks through our doors.
International Baccalaureate (IB) Programme
The North IB Program incorporates all aspects of an International Baccalaureate Middle years Programme (IBMYP). Teaching and learning have a strong emphasis on international mindedness, interdisciplinary experiences, and higher order thinking skills. All students receive classes in the eight IBMYP subject areas - Math, Science, Humanities (history and geography), English, Physical Education, the Arts (music, visual art and drama), Technology and World Language Acquisition (French, Latin, Spanish or Mandarin) in addition to participation in the Service Learning Program.. Enrollment in the IB Programme is automatic for all students at North MS.
The AVID Program is specifically directed towards those students who will be the first in their family to proceed to higher education classes. Not just a high school/college prep program, it also works hard to guide students into those work habits that can make them successful in the long term. Enrollment is by successful application and is open to 7th and 8th grade students. For applications please contact Mrs. Karen Broughton at 328-2483.
North is fortunate to host a strong Special Education department with a variety of programs, enabling the school to meet the wide spectrum of educational and special needs of its students. Enrollment is by district determination of eligibility.
IB Honors Program
North’s IB Honors Program provides a more academically rigorous course of study for those students requiring additional challenges in addition to preparing students for IB Honors classes at Palmer High School in 9th and 10th grades. North’s Honors Program is a great option for those students considering the IB Diploma Programme or Advanced Placement courses in 11th and 12th grades. Enrollment in the Honors Program is based on an application process which considers standardized test scores, academic history, teacher recommendations and a desire to excel in a challenging environment.
IMPORTANT: Transportation for students not living in the North attendance area is the responsibility of the family.
Application forms for the North Honors Program can be found at the end of this page. Please be sure to print out at least TWO of the Teacher Recommendation Forms. For the 2015-2016 school year, new applications are due in the North IB Office March 20, 2015. Please contact Mr. Darian Founds, IB Coordinator, for more information.
